Assam Congress Protests, Demands CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Removal and Arrest

The Assam Congress held demonstrations in several parts of Assam.

They want Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign and be arrested.

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi led one protest in Nagaon.

Another demonstration took place at the party office in Guwahati.

Police stopped the protesters from leaving that office.

Protesters shouted slogans against the central government and the Chief Election Commissioner.

In some places, they burned effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Kumar.

The protests followed a report about disagreements inside the Election Commission.

The report said two election commissioners had objected to some decisions involving voter registration and electoral rolls.
