Centre to Tighten Laws on Paper Leaks
The central government in India is planning to make the laws against paper leaks and cheating in exams stricter.
They want to increase the punishment for people involved in these crimes and set up special courts to handle these cases quickly.
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has promised more action on this issue.
The opposition leader, Rahul Gandhi, says that there have been many paper leaks with no one being punished and is asking for the Education Minister to step down.
The government is expected to approve these changes soon and introduce them in Parliament next week.
The central government plans to amend the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 to strengthen laws against paper leaks.
Proposed amendments include setting up fast-track courts and increasing jail terms and fines for those involved in paper leaks.
Current penalties include 3 to 5 years' imprisonment and fines up to Rs 10 lakh for individuals, and 5 to 10 years' imprisonment with a minimum fine of Rs 1 crore for organised crime.
The Cabinet is expected to approve the amendments on Friday, with the Bill to be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
