Madurai's Meenakshi Temple Holds Maha Kumbabishekam After 17 Years

Madurai’s Meenakshi Amman Temple held a special ceremony called Maha Kumbabishekam.

It had been 17 years since the temple last held this ceremony.

Nearly two lakh people came to watch it.

Sacred water was poured over the temple’s towers and important shrines.

The ceremony followed years of repairs and conservation work.

Those repairs were needed after a major fire in 2018 and were also delayed by other problems.

The city prepared drinking water, medical help, traffic arrangements, and security for visitors.

Temple trustees and the government disagreed about how some arrangements were handled.

Devotees said the event felt deeply spiritual and special.
