Farmers Uproot Cotton, Sow Chana in Adilabad
Farmers in Adilabad are very sad because their cotton plants are not growing well.
The weather has been too wet, and there are tiny bugs called pink bollworms that are eating the cotton.
This means the farmers are not getting much cotton to sell.
So, they are pulling out the cotton plants and putting in a different plant called chana instead.
This is because chana might grow better and help them make some money.
Also, it's hard to find workers to pick the cotton, and the workers want a lot of money.
The farmers are also upset because the people who buy cotton are not giving them the full price they promised.
Some farmers have already changed their plants to chana to try and save their season.
Farmers in Adilabad are uprooting cotton crops due to poor yields caused by high moisture, floods, and pink bollworm attacks.
Around 30 farmers have already replaced cotton with chana to limit losses.
High labour costs and reduced availability are delaying the second round of cotton picking.
Cotton was cultivated on 4.30 lakh acres in Adilabad and 3.34 lakh acres in Komaram Bheem Asifabad.
Farmers allege that the Cotton Corporation of India is making deductions from the minimum support price.
