CGHS Rates Clarified for Government Employees
The government has clarified how new CGHS rates will be applied to different cities.
Some cities, like Faridabad and Gurugram, will now get the same high rates as Delhi.
Other places, like Goa and Port Blair, will be treated as Y-Class cities.
This change is important because it affects how much money people get back when they go to the hospital.
The update makes sure that everyone is treated fairly and that there is no confusion about which rates apply to which cities.
It doesn't change the rates themselves, just how they are applied based on where you live.
The Ministry of Defence issued an addendum on December 16, 2025, clarifying CGHS rates for certain cities.
Cities like Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Gurugram will now be treated as X-Class (Tier-1) cities, like Delhi.
Goa, Port Blair, Jalandhar Cantt, Panchkula, and S.A.S Nagar / Mohali will be treated as Y-Class (Tier-2) cities.
The clarification aligns CGHS rates with existing HRA continuation rules and resolves confusion over city classification.
The update ensures fair and uniform application of CGHS rates across linked urban areas, impacting reimbursement for medical treatments.
