Karnataka Considers Mandatory Rest for Night-Shift Drivers
After a bad bus accident in Karnataka that killed seven people and hurt many more, the government is thinking about making drivers take a break at night.
They want drivers to rest for at least four hours between midnight and 4 a.m.
to prevent tiredness.
The government also wants to make buses safer by checking emergency exits and not allowing buses that aren't in good condition to operate.
Some experts think that instead of restricting night travel, having two drivers for long trips would be better.
There was also another problem with the same bus company where a driver was drunk, but the trip continued after the right driver took over.
Karnataka government is considering mandatory rest periods for night-shift drivers to combat fatigue and prevent accidents.
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy proposed a minimum of four hours of rest for drivers between midnight and 4 a.m.
Stricter bus safety measures include regular checks on emergency exits and proper maintenance.
Transport experts suggest mandating two drivers for long-distance routes instead of restricting night-time movement.
A recent incident involved a Seabird bus being driven by an intoxicated driver, which was stopped and addressed by the police.
