High Court Stays UltraTech Cement Plant Demolition in Gurgaon
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has temporarily stopped the demolition of an UltraTech Cement plant in Gurgaon.
The court said the plant can stay open until the next hearing in February.
UltraTech has been running the plant for over 25 years and says it has all the necessary permits.
The local government wanted to demolish the plant, but the court agreed to hear more arguments before making a final decision.
The plant is important because it supplies concrete for many building projects in the area and employs 171 people.
UltraTech says the demolition order is unfair and violates their rights.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed the demolition of UltraTech's RMC plant in Gurgaon until the next hearing on February 25, 2024.
UltraTech argued that the plant has been operating lawfully for over 25 years with all required approvals.
The Municipal Corporation of Manesar issued a demolition order on January 9, 2024, which UltraTech described as arbitrary and high-handed.
The plant, valued at approximately Rs 100 crore, employs 171 workers and supplies ready-mix concrete to various building projects in the region.
UltraTech contends that the demolition order violates its fundamental rights and that the Municipal Corporation lacks the authority to issue such an order.
