Jagan Questions Local Polls Using Old Voter Rolls
Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy questioned why local elections might use an older voter list.
A voter-list review has reportedly removed about 44 lakh entries.
A new list is expected on October 3.
Jagan said it would make more sense to use the new list if it is ready soon.
He also worried that election delays could be linked to a court case about reservations for Backward Classes.
Jagan told his party to choose candidates for every seat.
He asked party workers to visit households and explain the party’s message.
He said the elections are important for rebuilding the YSRCP after its 2024 Assembly election defeat.
Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy questioned the reported plan to hold local elections using the existing voter list.
He said about 44 lakh votes were removed during the Special Intensive Revision process.
The revised electoral roll is scheduled for publication on October 3.
Jagan suspected the government might delay elections by citing the voter-roll revision and litigation over 34% Backward Classes reservations.
He directed YSRCP leaders to field candidates for every seat and intensify their grassroots campaign.
