Sudan’s RSF Agrees to US-Backed Ceasefire Proposal
A group in Sudan called the RSF has said they agree to a temporary stop in fighting, proposed by the United States and other countries.
This war has been going on for a long time and has made many people suffer.
The RSF said they want to talk about stopping the fighting completely.
However, the other side in the war, the Sudanese army, hasn't clearly said if they agree or disagree yet.
They have had chances to agree to stop fighting before, but it hasn't worked.
The RSF recently took control of a city called al-Fashir.
Even though they agreed to a ceasefire, there are worries because witnesses say the RSF has hurt civilians.
The leader of the RSF said his fighters should protect people and will be punished if they don't.
Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have agreed to a US and Arab powers' proposal for a humanitarian ceasefire.
The RSF stated they are open to commencing discussions on a cessation of hostilities and political processes.
The Sudanese army had not immediately responded to the RSF's agreement and had previously shown disapproval from some of its leaders.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and RSF has lasted over two years, causing significant casualties, hunger, and displacement.
International concern exists over alleged civilian killings and abductions by the RSF during and after their capture of al-Fashir.
