Earth's Magnetic Tail Extends Millions of Kilometers
Earth has a tail made of plasma that extends millions of kilometers into space on its dark side.
This tail is formed because of the interaction between Earth's magnetic field, called the magnetosphere, and the solar wind.
The solar wind pushes the magnetosphere, compressing it on the day side and stretching it on the night side, creating a teardrop shape.
This tail is called the magnetotail and is always present, but its exact length is not known.
Scientists believe it stretches at least 2 million kilometers.
Other planets like Mercury also have tails, but Earth's tail is unique because it's formed by its magnetic field.

The exact length of the tail is not known, but it possibly extends to 1,000 times Earth’s radius.
