Moldova Withdraws from Russia-Led CIS Group

Moldova, a small country in Eastern Europe, is leaving a group called the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which was started by Russia after the Soviet Union ended.

Moldova's president, Maia Sandu, wants the country to join the European Union instead.

The foreign minister said they are finishing the legal steps to leave the CIS.

Some people in Moldova, like the leader of the Socialist Party, think this is a bad idea.

But others, like a political expert, say it's a good move because Moldova can make its own choices and work with other countries directly.
