Nepal's UML Party Challenges House Dissolution
In Nepal, the CPN-UML party, led by former Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, has asked the Supreme Court to bring back the House of Representatives.
They say the House was wrongly dissolved and that the new Prime Minister, Sushila Karki, was not appointed correctly.
The court is looking at their request.
The party is also getting ready for the upcoming elections, even though they want the House to be reinstated.
The elections are scheduled for March 5 next year.
CPN-UML filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court seeking reinstatement of the dissolved House of Representatives.
The petition claims the dissolution of the House and the appointment of Prime Minister Sushila Karki were unconstitutional.
The writ petitioners are Mahesh Bartaula and Sunita Baral, former Chief Whip and whip of the party in the Lower House.
The petition argues that Prime Minister Karki's appointment violates Articles 76 and 132(2) of the Constitution.
The CPN-UML has registered with the Election Commission for the upcoming elections scheduled for March 5.
