Delhi Plans Pink Force After Four Sexual Assault Cases
Delhi plans to create a special police team made up of trained women officers.
This team would patrol places such as schools, colleges and metro stations.
Police would pay special attention to times and locations where people may be at greater risk.
The plan was announced after four reported cases involving minors in about 10 days.
The latest case involved a 17-year-old girl who police said was gang-raped in a Delhi park.
The new team would be based on a similar force in Goa.
It would work with other police patrols already operating in Delhi.
Officials have not yet said when the Pink Force will begin or how many officers it will have.
Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu asked Delhi Police to create a dedicated Pink Force of trained women personnel.
The proposed unit would patrol schools, colleges, metro stations and other vulnerable locations, especially during sensitive hours.
The plan follows four alleged rape or sexual assault cases involving minors reported across Delhi in about 10 days.
The force would be modeled on Goa Police’s Pink Force and operate alongside existing Operation Shishtachar patrols.
The unit’s strength, launch date, district deployment and patrol timings have not yet been announced.
