Rangpur Family Murders Spark Questions Over Police Investigation

Rangpur Family Murders Spark Questions Over Police Investigation

Four members of a Hindu family were found dead inside their locked home in Rangpur, Bangladesh.

The victims were a retired teacher, his wife, their adult daughter and their 12-year-old son.

Police arrested two local youths and said the killings followed a confrontation over yaba use.

The two suspects were reported to have made confessions in court.

Families of the suspects and victims say this explanation may not be correct.

They have questioned the suspects’ clothing, the severed electricity line and the handling of the crime scene.

There are also disagreements about whether the victims’ faces were burned and whether sexual assault occurred.

A police Detective Branch team is now investigating, while groups demanding a judicial inquiry have held protests.
