India Upgrades Passport System, Launches New e-Passports
India's government has made its passport system much better!
They updated the Passport Seva Programme, which helps make passports.
Now, there's a new type of passport called an e-passport.
This new passport is like a normal one but also has a special computer chip.
This chip holds your information securely, just like the paper part of the passport.
The updated system also uses smart technology like AI to help people fill out forms and answer questions.
You can even pay for your passport online more easily now.
This makes getting a passport quicker and safer for everyone in India and for Indians living overseas.
The Ministry of External Affairs has launched Passport Seva Programme V2.0 (PSP V2.0) and Global Passport Seva Programme V2.0 (GPSP V2.0).
A new e-passport featuring an embedded RFID chip and antenna has been introduced for citizens.
PSP V2.0 was implemented across all 37 passport offices, 93 PSKs, and 450 POPSKs on May 26, 2025.
GPSP V2.0 was rolled out in Indian embassies and consulates worldwide on October 28, 2025.
The upgraded system includes AI-driven bots, auto-populated forms, simplified document submission, and online payment options.
