Tata's Agratas Targets FY2027 for UK Battery Production
Tata's Agratas, part of the Tata Group, is building a factory in the UK to make batteries for electric cars.
They plan to start producing these batteries in 2027.
This helps Tata reduce its need to get batteries from China, which currently controls a big part of the market.
The company is also building a factory in India.
JLR, another company in the Tata Group, is working with Agratas, and wants to have all-electric cars by 2026.
Building these battery factories is important because China controls most of the battery supply, and this can cause problems for the EV industry.
Tata's Agratas plans to start lithium-ion battery production in the UK by FY2027 to power EVs.
Agratas aims to reduce reliance on China for battery components.
Agratas announced in 2024 the construction of a 40 GwH plant in Somerset, UK and a 20GWh plant in Sanand, Gujarat.
JLR is partnering with Agratas and plans to make Jaguar an all-electric brand by 2026.
China currently dominates the lithium-ion battery supply chain, posing risks to the EV industry.
