Andhra Medical Student Dies After Hit-And-Run; Family Seeks Justice
A young woman doctor named Priyanka was riding her scooter with a friend in a city called Rajahmundry.
A car hit her scooter from behind and drove over her.
She got very hurt, especially her head.
The car was driven by two young men who were said to be under the influence of alcohol.
After the accident, the men drove away.
Police found them later using security camera footage and what witnesses saw.
Priyanka was taken to a hospital in Rajahmundry and then to a bigger hospital in Hyderabad.
Sadly, doctors said her brain had stopped working, and she died.
Her family is very sad and wants the men to be punished.
Many medical students are also asking for strict action against them.
Dr Priyanka, a 28-year-old postgraduate medical student at a private college in Rajahmundry, died in Hyderabad on Sunday, days after being run over by a car on August 3.
The accident happened near a mall in Rajahmundry, where two youths allegedly under the influence argued with mall security before driving off and allegedly ramming her scooter from behind.
The accused, Suravarapu Dushyanth and Andrew Joseph Edwards, fled the scene and were later arrested based on CCTV footage, witness accounts and other evidence.
Doctors declared Dr Priyanka brain dead due to severe head injuries; charges were initially filed under Section 338 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and later included Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
Her family called the loss irreparable, noting she was the first doctor in their large family, while medical students and student groups are demanding strict action against those responsible.
