Madras High Court Rejects Mosque's Claim to 1100 Acres of Land
A mosque in Tamil Nadu tried to claim a lot of land, but the Madras High Court said no.
Back in 1712, the mosque got a small piece of land.
Years later, they tried to take much more land, but the court said they could only have the original amount.
The court looked at old documents and said the mosque’s claim for extra land wasn’t valid.
The court said the mosque could have about 2 acres as per the 1712 grant, but not the larger area they were trying to claim.
The government had also argued against the mosque's claim.
Madras High Court dismissed a mosque's claim to 1100 acres of land in Tamil Nadu.
The mosque initially filed a suit claiming the land.
The court referenced a 1712 grant of 75 Kottahs (~2.34 acres).
The court found no evidence to support the mosque's expanded claim beyond the original grant.
The court directed the Waqf Board to identify the 2.34 acres per the original grant.
