Sachin Pilot Takes Charge as Congress Faces Punjab Battle
Congress has sent Sachin Pilot to lead its work in Punjab before the next state election.
The party hopes he can help leaders who are fighting with one another cooperate.
Congress wants to challenge the Aam Aadmi Party, which won 92 of Punjab’s 117 seats in the 2022 election.
The Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiromani Akali Dal might also work together again.
A separate group led by Amritpal Singh could attract some young Sikh voters.
This could make the election a close contest among several parties.
Pilot may tell party leaders that those who help win the most seats could have a better chance at leading the government.
Punjab has experienced serious consequences from political divisions in the past.
The article says all parties should avoid using divisive politics just to win an election.
Congress appointed Sachin Pilot as its Punjab general secretary in charge, replacing Bhupesh Baghel.
Pilot is expected to address the public conflict between state chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
Punjab’s upcoming Assembly election is shaping up as a contest involving the AAP, Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, Bharatiya Janata Party, and Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De).
