Uganda detains rights activist ahead of elections
In Uganda, a well-known human rights activist named Sarah Bireete has been detained by the police.
She is the head of an organization that fights for people's rights and has often spoken out against the government.
The detention happened just before an important election where the current president, who has been in power for a long time, is running against a popular musician turned politician.
Many people from the opposition party have also been detained, and the United Nations has expressed concern about this.
The activist's organization could not be reached for comment, and it is not clear what charges she might face or when she will go to court.
Sarah Bireete, a prominent human rights activist, has been detained by Ugandan police.
Bireete is the executive director of the Centre for Constitutional Governance (CCG).
The detention is part of a wider crackdown on dissent ahead of the January 15 election.
