Kolkata School Continues Classes Amidst Chief Minister's Rally, Students Face Difficulties
Imagine your school decided to have a normal school day even though a big, noisy parade was happening right outside your classroom window!
That's what happened at one school in Kolkata.
While other schools nearby decided to let students go home early because of the parade, this school stayed open.
Students had to walk a long way, holding hands like a human chain, to get to school and then again to get home.
Sometimes, even friendly shopkeepers helped them get through the crowd.
The school said the police didn't help much, but the police said everyone was safe.
Some kids were very late getting home because of all the walking and traffic jams.
Seth Soorajmull Jalan Balika Vidyalaya maintained its regular schedule on Tuesday despite a political rally taking place across the street.
Students and staff had to walk over a kilometer to reach their cars or arranged transportation, with local vendors and hawkers assisting in forming human chains.
While other schools in the vicinity dispersed early due to fears of chaos, Seth Soorajmull had near full attendance and conducted all scheduled activities.
School authorities reported that police did not provide assistance for student dispersal and did not allow school buses near the gate, contradicting a police claim of no chaos.
Many students experienced significantly longer travel times to get home, with some arriving hours later than usual due to traffic congestion and blocked routes.
