Diageo India liquor bottles seized over missing recycled plastic markings

Food safety inspectors in India visited a big factory where drinks like whisky and vodka are made.

They looked closely at the plastic bottles used for some of the drinks.

In India, bottles made from recycled plastic must have a special sign that shows the plastic is safe to hold food and drinks.

The inspectors said the bottles did not have this sign.

So they took away about 18,000 boxes of bottles to keep people safe.

The company that makes the drinks, called Diageo, says the drinks are perfectly safe to drink.

It says the bottles came from a recycler approved by the government and that suppliers did the required tests.

The company says it is now talking to the inspectors to decide what happens next.

The inspectors are also checking other drinks to make sure their labels tell the truth about things like how long the whisky was aged and what flavours were used.
