Middlesex Captain Leus du Plooy Misses Season After Registration Error
Leus du Plooy is the captain of Middlesex’s cricket team.
He will not be allowed to play for the club for the rest of the 2026 season.
This happened because Middlesex did not register him as an overseas player in time.
Du Plooy had previously played as a local player because he had a Hungarian passport.
He recently said he wanted to play international cricket for South Africa.
That decision meant cricket rules treated him as an overseas player in England.
The registration deadline was September 6, and the club missed it.
Middlesex will therefore be without him for an important final, while Max Holden leads the team.
Middlesex captain Leus du Plooy will miss the rest of the 2026 season.
The club failed to register him as an overseas player before the September 6 deadline.
Du Plooy became subject to overseas-player rules after declaring his intention to play for South Africa.
He will miss Middlesex’s Metro Bank One-Day Final against an unspecified opponent on September 20.
Max Holden is leading Middlesex while the club discusses the registration issue with the ECB and Professional Cricketers’ Association.
