MSHRC Warns MCGM Over Powai Madrasa Complaint
Some people in Powai, Mumbai, are upset because a madrasa (a school for Islamic studies) was built without permission.
They say it's too noisy and not safe.
They complained to the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC), which told the city government (MCGM) to respond.
If the city government doesn't answer, the commission might decide the case without them.
The madrasa is near IIT Market and has been causing problems since 2011.
The residents say parts of the building have collapsed, and the city government hasn't fixed it.
The commission is not happy with the city government's response so far and wants them to answer the complaints soon.
MSHRC has given MCGM a final chance to respond to a complaint about an unauthorized madrasa in Powai.
Residents allege the madrasa causes noise pollution and structural safety concerns.
MCGM has not adequately addressed the allegations in previous hearings.
The next hearing is scheduled for July 30, 2026.
The complaint has been pending since 2024, with residents submitting various documents and photographs.
