NDA Candidates Elected Unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Assam
Two people, Kanad Purkayastha and Birendra Prasad Baishya, have been chosen to represent Assam in the Rajya Sabha, which is like the Senate in India.
They were elected because no one else wanted the job, so there was no need for a vote.
Baishya is coming back for another term, but Purkayastha is new to the role.
They are part of the NDA, a political alliance.
The reason for the election was that the terms of the previous members were ending.
This means the representatives will be in the Rajya Sabha.
Kanad Purkayastha and Birendra Prasad Baishya, both NDA candidates, were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Assam.
No other candidates filed nominations for the two vacant seats.
The elections were scheduled for June 19, 2025.
Baishya, from Asom Gana Parishad, has been re-elected, while Purkayastha, from BJP, is a newcomer.
The elections were necessitated by the expiring terms of Mission Ranjan Das and Birendra Prasad Baishya.
