US Approves Potential $4.5 Billion Qatar KC-46A Sale

US Approves Potential $4.5 Billion Qatar KC-46A Sale

The United States may sell Qatar up to four military airplanes that refuel other aircraft in the air.

The possible deal is worth about $4.5 billion.

The planes would include equipment that can warn about missiles and help protect them from attacks.

Qatar also requested engines, communications equipment, and other military support.

Congress must review the proposed sale before it can be completed.

The United States says the sale would help Qatar defend itself and work with US and allied forces.

Qatar hosts a large US military base called Al-Udeid Air Base.

The base has reportedly been targeted several times by Iran during the recent regional conflict.

Qatar is also trying to help Washington and Tehran negotiate, although those talks are currently stalled.
