Andhra Targets 51 Lakh Tonnes Paddy Procurement
The government of Andhra Pradesh has set a big goal to buy 51 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from farmers this year.
This is a lot more than last year's 31 lakh tonnes.
The minister promised that farmers will get paid quickly, within 24 hours.
He also said that the previous government left a lot of money unpaid to farmers and millers.
The current government is also giving fine rice to schools and hostels for midday meals.
The minister was not happy with the rice millers because they are not working fast enough to process the paddy.
He told them to work faster and finish their tasks by January 8.
Andhra Pradesh aims to procure 51 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this year, a record target.
Payments to farmers will be credited within 24 hours of procurement.
Previous government left arrears of ₹1,674 crore for farmers and ₹1,100 crore for millers.
Fine variety rice is being supplied to 36,000 schools and 4,000 hostels for midday meals.
Minister criticizes rice millers for slow processing and sets a deadline of January 8 for completion.
