Portugal Lawmakers Expected to Reject No-Confidence Motion Against Minister

Portugal’s parliament is preparing to vote on whether it still supports the government.

The far-right Chega party wants the government removed from office.

Chega says Interior Minister Luis Neves should leave because of allegations involving property work, a vehicle, and seized chemicals.

Neves says he did nothing wrong and will not resign.

Prime Minister Luis Montenegro has defended him and called the motion a political maneuver.

Most other parties are expected to vote against the motion or abstain.

That means the motion will probably fail.

Even so, the vote shows that Montenegro’s minority government is politically fragile.
