Modi Says Mobile Phones Have Become Tools for Good Governance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at the India Mobile Congress in New Delhi.
He said phones are now used for more than calls and messages.
They can help people reach public services and digital tools.
Modi said 5G service had reached every district in India.
He also said more than 550,000 5G base stations were operating.
According to him, mobile internet is much faster than it was in 2022.
He said the Digital India programme aims to help more people access digital services.
The Congress runs from October 7 to 10, 2026.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said mobile phones have evolved from communication devices into tools for governance and access to public services.
At the 10th India Mobile Congress, Modi said 5G connectivity had reached every district and more than 550,000 5G base stations were operating in India.
Modi said mobile internet speeds were 10 times higher than in 2022, when 5G was launched in India from the Congress platform.
He said the Digital India programme aimed to address the digital divide by putting mobile phones at the centre of expanding digital access and services.
The Congress is taking place in New Delhi from October 7 to 10, 2026, organised by the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India.
