Govt Proposes TReDS Securitization for MSME Invoices
The Indian government wants to make a system called TReDS the official way for big government companies to buy things from small businesses.
This system helps small businesses get money faster.
The finance minister also suggested some other ways to make sure small businesses get paid on time and can get loans more easily.
The government also wants to turn these invoices into special investment papers called asset-backed securities.
This can help small businesses get more money and make it easier for them to grow.
Experts say this is a good idea, but there are still problems with big private companies not paying small businesses on time.
The government's plan could help small businesses get the money they are owed faster and make it easier for them to grow.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed mandating TReDS as the transaction settlement platform for all CPSE purchases from MSMEs.
TReDS has facilitated ₹7 lakh crore in funds for MSMEs.
Credit guarantee support through CGTMSE for invoice discounting on TReDS platforms was introduced.
Government e-marketplace to be linked with TReDS for sharing information about government purchases from MSMEs.
TReDS receivables to be treated as asset-backed securities to enhance liquidity and develop a secondary market.
