Govt Extends BIS Certification Deadline on Aluminium Cans

Govt Extends BIS Certification Deadline on Aluminium Cans

The Indian government has extended the deadline for a rule that makes aluminium cans used in food and drinks meet certain quality standards.

This rule, which was supposed to start in August 2025, has been pushed back to give companies more time to prepare.

Big companies have until October 2026, smaller ones until January 2027, and the smallest until April 2027.

The government did this because there aren't enough aluminium cans being made in India right now, and companies were worried they wouldn't have enough for the busy summer season.

The rule says that all cans must meet Indian quality standards and have a special mark showing they do.

The beverage industry is happy about this extension because it gives them more time to make sure they have enough cans for their products.
