Andhra Pradesh Election Commission Prepares for Local Polls
Andhra Pradesh is getting ready to hold elections for local councils and village bodies.
Election officials and police have been asked to prepare in case the elections can begin soon.
They checked plans for ballot papers, ballot boxes, polling places and keeping order.
The elections cannot be scheduled yet because court matters are still pending and the government must finish deciding reserved seats.
The State Election Commission will follow the Supreme Court's guidance and use the reservation details supplied by the government.
The proposed order is municipal elections first, then MPTC and ZPTC elections, and finally village council elections.
The government hopes the whole process will finish by December 25, but the commission has not set that as an official deadline.
The State Election Commission has placed election officials and police on standby for local body polls.
Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha said preparations would allow action soon after legal and reservation issues are resolved.
Officials reviewed logistics, ballot paper printing, polling-station data, law-and-order plans and potential problem areas.
Election timing depends on pending Supreme Court proceedings and the State government's completion of reservation details.
Municipal polls are tentatively expected first, followed by MPTC and ZPTC elections, then gram panchayat polls; the government is targeting completion by December 25.
