Uttar Pradesh Imposes Phased Traffic Curbs for Kanwar Yatra
The Kanwar Yatra is a big Hindu pilgrimage where people walk from the Ganges to offer water to Lord Shiva.
To keep the roads safe, Uttar Pradesh police will stop most cars and trucks from July 30 to August 12.
They will close the main highway from Delhi to Haridwar and the Ganga canal road in Muzaffarnagar from August 4.
Instead, traffic will be sent through other roads like Deoband and NH‑9.
In Delhi, the police will close a stretch of GT Road from August 9 to 12 and stop pilgrims on the Delhi‑Dehradun Expressway.
They also set up many medical camps, ambulances, and CCTV cameras to help people who need help.
The plan is to make sure the pilgrims can travel safely and the roads stay clear.
Heavy traffic restrictions will be phased from July 30 to August 12 across western Uttar Pradesh for the Kanwar Yatra.
The Delhi‑Haridwar National Highway and Ganga canal road in Muzaffarnagar will be closed to all vehicular movement from August 4.
Traffic will be diverted through alternate routes such as Deoband, Pachenda, Mirapur, Mawana, and via NH‑9 and NH‑44 in Delhi.
The Delhi Traffic Police will close GT Road between Apsara Border and Yamuna Bridge from August 9 to 12 and prohibit Kanwar Yatris on the Delhi‑Dehradun Expressway.
Medical, CCTV, and security arrangements have been set up, with 300 camps, 24 medical camps, 65 ambulances, and 250 reserved hospital beds.
