Goa Police Question Protesters Over Free Umar Khalid Slogan
On July 24, people in Goa protested in Mapusa to support a student named Umar Khalid.
After the protest, the police asked two of the protesters to fill out a very long questionnaire with 240 questions.
The questions were about the slogan “Free Umar Khalid,” who organized the protest, and whether the protesters were part of any groups.
The police said they did this because a local group called Citizens of Mapusa had complained.
The police officer, Harishchandra Madkaikar, said the protesters were let go after the questions were answered.
The Goa chief minister, Pramod Sawant, said the protest was not about the student and that it was wrong to mix it with another protest about exam papers.
He warned that such slogans could disturb peace.
The police are keeping a close eye on protests in Goa.
The incident shows how the state is handling protests about political issues.
Goa police asked at least two protesters to complete a 240‑question questionnaire after a Mapusa protest on July 24.
The questionnaire focused on the “Free Umar Khalid” slogan, protest organization, and participants’ affiliations.
The inquiry was triggered by a complaint from a local group called Citizens of Mapusa.
Superintendent Harishchandra Madkaikar said the protesters were allowed to leave after the inquiry.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant criticized the inclusion of Khalid slogans at a NEET paper‑leak protest and warned against anti‑national sentiments.
