Mandaviya Orders Panel to Plan Hockey India League Revival
India’s sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya met Hockey India and team owners.
They discussed problems affecting the Hockey India League, or HIL.
The league returned last year after being away for seven years.
However, there are concerns about whether it has enough money and teams to continue.
Mandaviya asked the groups to make a plan for its future.
A five-member committee will include two Hockey India representatives, two franchise representatives and one senior ministry official.
The committee will study the league’s rules, finances and structure and report back on time.
The meeting also happened while Hockey India officials disagreed about who should hold a senior administrative role.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya asked Hockey India and franchise owners to create a roadmap for the league’s financial viability and sustainability.
A five-member panel will include two Hockey India representatives, two franchise representatives and one senior Sports Ministry official.
The panel will address the league’s governance model, financial model and overall structure, and submit a time-bound report.
Representatives from seven franchises, including a new Bengaluru team, attended the meeting in New Delhi.
