Bangladesh Faces Rising Extremism Amid Political Upheaval

After the Sheikh Hasina-led government was removed, Bangladesh has seen a rise in extremism and radical groups like the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (BJI).

The BJI is trying to present itself as moderate, but it still supports radical elements and is against minorities.

The country is now under an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.

Upcoming elections are scheduled for February 12, 2025, but the Awami League, which was led by Sheikh Hasina, is not allowed to participate.

The main parties running are the BNP, BJI, and NCP.

The BJI wants to implement Sharia-based governance and has formed alliances with other parties.

Experts warn that if the BJI gains power, it could make Bangladesh more radical and increase violence.
