FCA Launches Consultation on New Crypto Rules
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK has started a big discussion about new rules for the crypto industry.
They want to make sure crypto is safe and fair for everyone.
The rules will cover things like stopping cheating in trading, making sure crypto companies are safe, and protecting people who lend or borrow crypto.
The FCA wants people to give their opinions on these rules by February 2026.
They plan to finish the rules by the end of next year.
Right now, only 8% of UK adults own crypto, which is less than before.
The FCA wants to make sure the new rules are good for both people and the crypto industry.
The FCA launched a consultation on new crypto rules on December 16, 2023.
The proposed rules will cover listings, insider trading, platform standards, and broker regulations.
The FCA aims to finalize the regime by the end of 2024, with regulations starting in October 2027.
The consultation includes prudential requirements, clearer risk disclosures, and safeguards for crypto firms.
The FCA is seeking feedback on its proposals before the February 12, 2026, deadline.
