States asked to share costs for Konkan Railway doubling
The Konkan Railway Line, which goes through the Western Ghats, needs to be doubled to make it better.
The minister said that the states through which the railway passes should help pay for this big project.
Some parts of the railway have already been doubled, but there's still a lot more to do.
The railway company is making a detailed plan for this work.
It's important because the railway is very busy, and doubling it will help more trains run smoothly.
Doubling of Konkan Railway Line is necessary to increase capacity.
Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw asked state governments to contribute to the project costs.
Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) is preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for doubling identified sections (approx 263 km).
Out of 739 km, 55 km (Roha-Veer and Madgaon-Majorda sections) have already been doubled.
Remaining 685 km requires substantial investment and contribution from shareholding state governments.
