Kolkata Police to Upgrade with Modern Assault Rifles
The Kolkata Police are getting new guns called Trichy Assault Rifles (TAR) to replace their old .303 rifles.
These new guns are lighter and can shoot more accurately.
They can shoot single shots or multiple shots at once and can hit targets up to 500 meters away.
The police have been slowly getting rid of the old guns and replacing them with newer ones like INSAS and SLRs.
The TAR is already used by other police forces in India, like in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh.
The new guns will make the police feel more confident and better prepared to handle dangerous situations.
Along with the TAR, they are also getting new pistols and other non-lethal weapons.
Kolkata Police are replacing their old .303 rifles with modern Trichy Assault Rifles (TAR).
The TAR is lighter (3.5kg) compared to the old .303 rifles (5.5kg).
The new rifles support both single-shot and burst fire modes with an effective range of 500 meters.
The TAR has already been deployed by other police forces in India for various operations.
Kolkata Police will also procure around 200 automatic 9mm 1A pistols and upgrade non-lethal munitions.
