Mumbai Redevelopment Boom Expands as Projects Reshape Housing Supply

Mumbai has very little empty land left for building new homes.

Because of this, developers and housing societies are rebuilding older buildings and informal settlements.

More than 1,000 redevelopment projects have started since 2020, according to the report.

Redeveloped homes made up 15% of recent housing sales.

Many old buildings, including about 13,500 cessed buildings, need to be replaced.

Slum rehabilitation projects now cover more than 2,000 acres.

New rules make some projects easier to approve and allow residents to play a bigger role.

New metro lines and roads are also making some areas more valuable.
