Haryana Sets Six-Year Age Rule for Class 1 Admissions
Haryana has decided that children must be at least six years old to join Class 1 starting from the 2026-2027 school year.
This change is because the Punjab and Haryana High Court said it should follow the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Before, there was a six-month age waiver, but now that's ending.
Many other states in India have already made this change, but a few like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Kerala have not.
The High Court also told Haryana to update its rules after a case called Divisha Yadav vs State of Haryana.
Now, children who are not six years old will go to pre-primary classes and join Class 1 when they turn six.
Haryana will require children to be at least six years old to join Class 1 starting from the 2026-2027 academic year.
This change aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and follows directives from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The previous six-month age waiver has been ended, affecting parents in Gurgaon and other cities.
Currently, 30 states and union territories have implemented the six-year minimum age rule, while Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Kerala have not.
Children who do not meet the age limit will be placed in pre-primary classes and will join Class 1 upon turning six years old.
