Sensex Opens Higher as Private Banks Lift Nifty Above 22,600

Indian stock markets started Tuesday a little higher.

The Nifty rose above 22,600, and the Sensex also gained.

Shares of private banks helped lead the rise.

Gains in Asian markets after a strong technology rally in the United States also encouraged buyers.

But experts said it was too soon to know whether prices would keep rising.

They said the Nifty may face difficulty moving above 22,800.

Foreign investors sold shares worth ₹4,699 crore on Monday, while Indian institutions bought ₹5,181 crore.

Experts also said lower oil prices would help support a lasting market rise, but they saw no clear sign of that yet.
