Rat Infestations Raise Alarm Across Warangal Hospitals, Hostels

Rats have reportedly caused problems at a hospital and a girls’ hostel in the former Warangal district.

At Vardhannapet government hospital, rats allegedly bit a body kept in the mortuary.

The Telangana Human Rights Commission began looking into that incident on its own.

The hospital superintendent, Dr B. Virin, resigned after the incident.

In another case, 14 girls at a social welfare school in Palakurthi reportedly suffered rat bites.

Former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao visited the school to learn what happened.

Police and school staff stopped him from entering the hostel, so he protested outside.

Some people say poor drainage, dirty conditions and badly handled waste may be attracting the rats.
