Karnataka Raises Vehicle Purchase Cap for Ministers and MPs
The Karnataka government has raised the amount that Ministers and members of Parliament can spend on a new vehicle.
The old maximum was Rs 26 lakh, including GST.
The new maximum is Rs 31 lakh, also including GST.
The price limit is based on the vehicle’s ex-showroom price.
The change was announced in a government order issued on October 8.
The Finance Department agreed to the change on September 30, 2026.
The order asks officials to choose vehicles that use less fuel and cost less to maintain.
It does not give a reason for raising the limit.
Karnataka increased the vehicle purchase limit for state Ministers and Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members from Rs 26 lakh to Rs 31 lakh.
The new Rs 31 lakh ceiling includes GST and is based on the ex-showroom rate.
A government order announcing the change was issued on October 8.
The previous limit was set by an August 18, 2022 order at Rs 23 lakh before GST, or Rs 26 lakh including GST.
