Sharad Pawar Backs Tata Trusts Amid Leadership, Listing Row

Sharad Pawar spoke about a disagreement between Tata Trusts and Tata Sons.

Tata Trusts own about 66% of Tata Sons.

Pawar said this ownership was designed so the group’s money could support charities and public institutions.

He said the Trusts’ special role should not be weakened.

The disagreement grew after the board voted to reappoint Natarajan Chandrasekaran as chairman.

One Trust representative voted against the decision, while another voted for it.

The Trusts say both of their nominated directors needed to support the appointment.

The board also approved steps toward possibly listing Tata Sons on the stock market.

Pawar said the disagreement should be handled through the company’s rules, discussion and proper legal processes.
