PCMC to Act on Bounced Cheques for Property Tax Payments
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is taking action against people who haven't paid their property taxes with bounced checks.
In March 2025, a large number of checks bounced, meaning there wasn't enough money in the accounts.
PCMC is giving those people two weeks to pay up.
If they don't, PCMC will start taking their property.
This is because some people give checks to avoid immediate action but don't have enough money in their accounts when the checks are cashed.
The issue is especially noticeable during the end of the financial year when the tax collection efforts are increased.
PCMC is taking action against property tax defaulters with bounced cheques.
In March 2025, 780 cheques for property tax payments bounced.
Thergaon had the most bounced cheques with Rs 3.71 crore in dues.
Defaulters get two weeks to clear dues, or PCMC will attach property.
Officials observed a spike in bounced cheques due to increased recovery drives.
