Delhi SIR Notices for Prominent Voters Cleared After Verification
Delhi is checking its voter list in an exercise called the Special Intensive Revision.
Some famous people received notices because their current voter details did not match an older list from 2002.
This did not automatically mean their names would be removed.
Election workers visited many of them and checked their documents.
Officials said most of the prominent voters were successfully verified.
Their names were reserved for the final voter list.
The final list is expected on November 4.
Officials said nobody can be removed without a chance to explain and appeal.
L K Advani, Jagdeep Dhankhar, S Jaishankar, Rekha Gupta and Arvind Kejriwal received notices during Delhi’s SIR.
Most notices were issued because voters were “unmapped with last SIR” in Delhi’s 2002 electoral roll.
Booth-level officers visited prominent voters and checked supporting documents to verify their details.
Officials reserved the verified voters’ names for inclusion in Delhi’s final electoral roll, due November 4.
The draft roll lists more than 97 lakh electors, while about 33.13 lakh were flagged over discrepancies.
