Nepal's Former King Abandons Title After 17 Years
Imagine a king who used to rule a country, but the people decided they didn't want a king anymore.
This happened in Nepal 17 years ago.
Even though the king wasn't ruling anymore, he kept calling himself 'His Majesty the King'.
Recently, after a lot of changes in the country, he said he would start calling himself 'former His Majesty the King'.
It seems like the king is now following the country's new rules.
Some people wondered if the king might come back, but he hasn't, at least not yet.
Former King Gyanendra Shah has announced he will now be known as the 'former His Majesty the King'.
The change was announced on the occasion of the Dashain festival.
The former King's office was previously questioned by police regarding the use of the old title.
Some groups wished to restore the monarchy following political changes.
The King was open to considering the restoration of the monarchy only if political parties agreed first.
