New Gorkha Party Irks Parent GNLF
A new political party called Gorkha National Liberation Front (Subashbadi) was formed in the Darjeeling hills by former members of the original Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF).
The original GNLF, which was founded by Subash Ghisingh in 1980, was recently delisted by the Election Commission of India for not contesting elections in the past six years.
The new party aims to continue the legacy of Subash Ghisingh and push for the Sixth Schedule status, which would protect the land, culture, and people of the region.
The original GNLF plans to challenge the new party's use of their name.
