Jammu Protests Erupt Over Muslim Admissions at Vaishno Devi College
People in Jammu are very upset because many Muslim students were admitted to a medical college that is supported by Hindu devotees.
They are protesting and want the government to change the admissions so that only Hindu students can study there.
The protesters even burned a dummy of the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, and shouted slogans against him.
The college is run by a government board, and the protesters say the government is being unfair.
Some people even said they would rather close the college than have Muslim students there.
The police had to stop the protesters from causing more trouble, but they didn't use force.
Protests erupted in Jammu against the admission of 42 Muslim students out of 50 in the first-year MBBS course at Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College.
Protesters demanded 100% reservation for Hindu students and the cancellation of Muslim students' admissions.
The demonstration was organized by the Mata Vaishno Devi Sangarsh Samiti, with support from BJP activists and trade union leaders.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who heads the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, faced backlash and effigy burning.
Police prevented protesters from storming the Lok Bhavan but avoided using force against the largely pro-Hindutva mob.
